Please come and join us for our Halloween concert on Thursday 1st November at Christchurch URC at 7:30pm.  As usual for our Christchurch performances, entry will be free with a retiring collection for the Indonesia Tsunami Appeal.

We will be playing some Halloween-themed music including:

  • Danse Macabre (Saint-Saens)
  • Night on a Bare Mountain (Mussorgsky)
  • Peer Gynt suite #1 - In the Hall of the Mountain King (Grieg)
  • Music from Wicked and Psycho

To get you in the mood, this is taken from the Wikipedia page for Danse Macabre:

"According to legend, "Death" appears at midnight every year on Halloween. Death calls forth the dead from their graves to dance for him while he plays his fiddle (here represented by a solo violin). His skeletons dance for him until the rooster crows at dawn, when they must return to their graves until the next year."

If you are thinking of joining or would like more information, please Contact Us or visit our Facebook site. The aim is to be a true community orchestra for the Marlow area, being encouraging and welcoming to new players and taking a varied repertoire to a wide variety of venues in the local area.  The social aspect is important with post-rehearsal drinks at a local pub as well as trips to the Rebellion brewery members nights.

Summer 2018

What fantastic weather and fantastic audiences for our trio of outdoor performances this summer.  We have settled into a standard format for our summer series, with the orchestra taking classical music to popular outside venues around Marlow and the local area.

This summer we started by returning to The Ship in Marlow, always a big audience in their lovely garden and wonderful hospitality which is why we keep coming back every year!  Have a look at the review from MyMarlow summed up with "What a fantastic evening!"

This was followed by an equally sunny evening at The Two Brewers in Marlow, a little more comfortable than the Christmas performance last year!

We finished with a lunchtime performance at The Bounty in Bourne End, a wonderful welcome and an absolutely packed garden: a perfect summer's afternoon by the river.

Other events in the local area can be found on WhereCanWeGo.

Spring 2018

Our sole focus for Spring 2018 was the performance of Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 5 at The United Reform Church in Marlow on 22nd March 2018.  The format of the concert was for our musical director and conductor Tom Horn to talk through the symphony with the orchestra playing specific extracts, before performing the work in full. This was a rousing performance thoroughly enjoyed by the audience as well as the players!  This was a free concert, with donations welcomed afterwards for both the Riley Park Trust and Marlow Orchestra.
